Oooh, a response - thank you Amber. I'm gradually getting some interest from HVs who prefer face-to-face contact, so gently and slowly but needs must just now.
There are some lockdown P&G projects under discussion which I hope to be able to share soon.
Parks and Gardens Heritage Volunteers have had limited opportunities during lockdown as outdoor activities were stopped by site owners. Exploring gardens online has been of interest and some links have been posted on the Forum page: https://www.connected.theartssociety.org/forum/arts-at-home/enjoying-gardens
As parks and gardens start to re-open we can now review our way forward. For archival research some can be done online but we will also need access to local libraries. Meanwhile we do have opportunities for some online training. Keeping in touch with volunteers is beneficial but not all use digital media such as Zoom or Whatsapp. Such meetings have been lovely in lockdown and quite useful. We are certainly developing new skills which should be really useful in our future activities.
Absolutely Judith- we've all had a steep learning curve, it's really wonderful to see how so many have been using technology in creative ways. But of course, nothing beats getting out into our lovely parks and gardens!
Over the last few weeks, I expect many of you will have been walking around your neighbourhood taking your daily exercise. How would you like to share some of what you have discovered in your area with other members of your Society? For instance, we noticed a Coat of Arms on a couple of buildings and we have now found out this is the Coat of Arms of a local landowner.
If you would like to know more about creating one of these trails please contact me on trails@theartssociety.org When a trail is created it could be put on your society website for other members to see and maybe try the walk for themselves and learn more about their area.
Thank you Pauline and Judith for your suggestions! It is so interesting to hear how volunteering projects are adapting.
