Today, Phileas Fogg and Passepartout arrive in Yemen aboard the steamship Mongolia. Christopher Bradley gives us a fascinating introduction to the city of Aden, with its large natural harbour framed by mountains, at one time one of the busiest and wealthiest ports in the world. Click here to go ashore (virtually of course) and watch the video for the latest stage of our journey. (You have to log in to access this stage)
Since we started our journey almost two weeks ago we have had many new Virtual Travellers join us.
I would like to welcome all new Virtual Travellers warmly and invite you to the extra events we are putting on. We have two more book readings with Simon Whitehouse booked on 18th July and 5th August. In addition, we have lecturers from previous stages join us on the 18th, too, so if you have questions about Suez or Aden, you can join for the Ask Me Anything session after the reading. You can register for these events here for free. Future events will include a traditional Japanse Chado (The way of tea) presentation and a wood cut demonstration.
Of course we'd love to welcome you to our Book Club to discuss the novel as Phileas and Passepartout progress on their adventurous journey, or meet fellow Virtual Travellers in our Group.
Having just travelled along the Suez Canal with Roger Butler, we thought you might be interested to learn more about Canal Art - Roger has very kindly recorded another lecture as a follow-up to his excellent talk on that distant part of our journey: now he takes us back, briefly, to share his passion about canals in the UK.
We'd like to hear your thoughts on the journey so far in the comments section below - and maybe some of our 'veteran' fellow Virtual Travellers have some tips for anyone who has joined the journey more recently.
Bon voyage!
