Phileas Fogg travelled across the Great Plains using a wind sledge but in the 1930s the wind was not so kind and the region suffered huge dust storms creating an area which became known as The Dust Bowl. During this time of great economic hardship the government's Works Progress Administration initiative supported 5,300 artists including Jackson Pollock, Dorthea Lange, Ben Shahn and Thomas Hart Benton. Murals, painting, photography, graphic design all flourished. The soundtrack of the era is provided by Woody Guthrie.
