Well here we are gradually finding our way forward and hoping that this progress will be able to continue. We are unfortunately still a long way from being able to resume normal routines, ie. coffee out, browsing the shops and of most importance resuming our lecture programme.
However be assured that the committee have this aim in their sights and we are having regular meetings to discuss future planning and how we can keep in touch with you all and offer online talks and lectures.
Please contact me if you have any ideas or suggestions that would contribute to our efforts. Indeed it would be great to hear from you anyway and please feel confident to join our forum. We would love to hear from you.
Thank-you for your replies to our survey. I am heartened by your positive attitudes and am sure we will continue to flourish over the coming years and months.
Soon more shops will be opening and I have been told that John Lewis in Welwyn Garden City will be opening its doors. Despite the prospect of queuing I suspect there will be people eager to browse and purchase, after being restricted to essential goods only. I came upon this poem in my reliable "Poems on the Underground" quite apt I thought.
Shopper
I am spending my way out
of a recession. The road chokes
on delivery vans.
I used to be Just Looking Round.
I used to be How Much, and
Have You Got it in Beige.
Now I devour whole stores-
high speed spin; giant size; chunky gold;
de luxe springing. Things.
I drag them round me into a stockade.
It is dark inside; but my credit cards
are incandescent.

Many apologies for the longer than usual pause. This week I have been working my way through the ways in which we can offer you an online lecture, just for our members. We hope this will be a way of adding value to the membership and keeping us active, as the lockdown eases slowly back to what is being referred to as the new normal. For us it means that at the moment even if Campus West opens its doors, the doors to the theatre will open only to allow in a very few people.
Please let me know your thoughts and if you happen to be an expert zoom user I would value your expertise.
Keep safe and enjoy the sunshine.
Another beautiful day, how lucky we are. To all our members, just to let you know the committee are looking at further ways to communicate and keep in touch. We are exploring the possibility of offering online lectures and zoom discussion groups. Please let me know your opinions on these ideas and whether you would like to be involved in either activity.
