Another "tour" you might like to take is round the various exhibitions at Compton Verney. And when we are released then this really is a lovely place to visit - as I am sure many of you know!

There would have been a very interesting exhibition on Cranach but you can "walk" round the exhibits at home, besides taking a look at the other permanent exhibitions.

British portraiture, including Tudor royals and paintings by Sir Joshua Reynolds; Chinese bronzes phoodle; the largest collection of British folk art in the UK; and the work of 20th-century textile designer Enid Marx are just some of the highlights of the museum's permanent collections, which focus on six areas that are generally under-represented in other British museums and galleries.
Yes - of course I will do that. It's amazing how much there is to 'visit' online!
I so enjoyed this brief, but highly informative, virtual tour of the current Cranach exhibition at Compton Verney. I knew very little about this painter, apart from his best known and iconic images, so not only was I treated to those but given all the fascinating context of his paintings and a view of how his influence is felt in art even up to the present day. Thank you to the Arts Society Cheltenham for opening my eyes to these virtual exhibitions - I'm off to find another now! While nothing can replace a visit in person to a favourite exhibition or gallery, this virtual tour is like a personal guided tour and mini lecture all in one, and in this time of lockdown is the next best thing to being there.
