🌺 As the earlier post, part 1, is getting rather long, it continues here with the next instalment of Opera in the Garden: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x30XN9eIxl8
This short video takes us on a tour of the borders and veg patch in the Wormsley gardens, with some useful tips, interspersed with some musical gems. Another episode will be broadcast next week.
Have you got any 'music in gardens' to share with our members?
Â
Thank you Muriel for your reply. Yes, this has been a lovely little series and a novel way for Garsington Opera to share a little of their garden with tasters of their performances. While there we don't give much thought for all the work that goes on behind the scenes to show the gardens at their best, nor all the freshly cut flower displays.
So refreshing to visit the Opera Garden and enjoy the wonderful music therein. Love the theme chosen, and the idea of giving some tips on planting wonderful floral combinations.
Opera Garden next episode
From the Wormsley estate garden here's the 3rd episode in the series, showing us the garden which actually surrounds the opera house, and a clipping from an opera with a garden scene.

More art in gardens - recent developments
As well as our own TAS lectures on gardens and their histories (live or virtual), the national Gardens Trust and some local County Garden Trusts are now using Zoom for some of their talks, which are potentially easier to access than travelling to live lectures. It's therefore not surprising to find that some also include art topics, such as the Impressionists, landscapes, flower paintings and opera.
Many TAS members are also members of their local County Garden Trusts. Some may even be on their CGT committees and contribute to the lecture schedules. So checking their lecture programmes may be of potential interest.

🌺 More gardens are opening as lockdown eases, and there are 180+ virtual visits available. We are being encouraged to visit during the remaining weeks of 'live' access, to enjoy... and help with fundraising. Similarly with donations for virtual tours, which have raised £100k online during lockdown. This compares with £4m raised last year. Money goes to a group of nursing charities which may lose out at a time when nurses and the NHS are at the forefront of our minds...
More garden opera - a pop up concert from Garsington
I've just watched this live streamed performance but hadn't anticipated little tours of the gardens as well, which are delightful. I'm not sure if it will be available beyond this evening, but here's the link:

It is currently available but, if it's taken down, the main website has a lovely photo gallery and performances of some of their operas on YouTube, plus other activities while at home.

Perhaps we should start a new post on opera...? I will leave that for others as gardens are keeping me occupied just now!
Enjoy...!!
Looking forward to it, great news.
Thank you, Muriel and Bridget, for adding your comments. I'm so glad the videos were enjoyable and the useful gardening tips a bonus! I will feedback to the Garsington office... maybe they will add some more videos through the summer and autumn!
As the TAS Parks and Gardens HV Coordinator it is always interesting to find new ways of looking at gardens and linking their natural beauty with other art forms such as music, paintings, sculpture etc. So I use the term 'Art in gardens and gardens in art'. When going around galleries there are many paintings with plants and trees, and also stained glass windows in churches...
Next week we will see where the operas are performed, the setting is fabulous!
Some useful tips for growing tomatoes. Such vibrant colours in the gardens. The opera really set it off. Thnank you for such beauty !
Beautiful garden full of flowers with wonderful music. Thank you.
